St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School, currently ranked 35th on the Digital Sports Lacrosse Ranking, is off to a smashing start. With two wins in their first two games, the Virginia team is looking to climb their way up the table.
Their first victory came in a great comeback over 8th ranked Episcopal Academy from Pennsylvania. After the first quarter, St. Stephen’s was down 1-5, but that did not discourage the Saints. Due to incredible defense and goaltending, St. Stephen’s kept Episcopal from scoring for the remainder of the game. They battled back to finally take the lead in the fourth quarter, ending with an 8-5 victory. Goalkeeper Sam Beazell finished the game with 16 saves, turning it around after the five goals first quarter. Without his prime goalkeeping, the Saints would have had a tough time staying in the game to overtake the 8th ranked Pennsylvanian team.
St. Stephen’s next opponent was Potomac School, a fellow Virginian school. This time, the Saints jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. After that, St. Stephen’s allowed one goal in each of the remaining quarters and continued their scoring excellence. The game finished 10-4 in St. Stephen’s favor for their second consecutive win.
From here, St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes will be looking to run up the rankings with more big wins, like the Episcopal game. They have proved that they can overcome difficulties to get the win, even against some of the top teams in the country. Keep your eye on this team. If they continue like this, the Saints will be quickly working their way up the rankings.
